About us

Our story started back in 2013 with French schoolteacher Sophie and English tour manager Mat who were both looking for a change after ten years of teaching secondary school kids and babysitting rock stars around the world.

 

Bonded by a love of French Crepes & authentic Belgian Waffles, they wanted to create something that reflected their passions whilst allowing Sophie to fulfil her dream of living in a typical English town.

The stage was set for Sophie's, and after an initial period selling crepes at food festivals and the local market hall, Chez Sophie opened on Mardol Head, Shrewsbury November 2014. 

​

Since then we've served thousands of crepes, waffles, shakes and coffees to people of all ages and backgrounds, drawn to our fun, friendly atmosphere with French radio and shelves of games, plus large stack of 1990s NMEs for Mum and Dad!

We also have an award-winning range of over 250 craft beers and ciders from around the world, all selected by Mat, an accredited beer sommelier, available to drink in or through our sister website www.sophiesbeerstore.co.uk. 

​

Emerging from the lockdowns of 2020 - 2021 we refreshed our interior and branding,  shortening our name to Sophie's to reflect what many regulars call us here in Shropshire, but our menu remains the same, as is our passion for perfect crepes & waffles, proper shakes and excellent coffee!
